Dukan refinery (first stage) is designed to process 20,000 BPSD of Taqtaq field crude oil. The construction of the refinery was started at the end of 2013. The main part of the first stage is a crude distillation unit, the unit was designed with up to date technology and according to the applicable international standards. The refinery has one of the best economical design efficiency, the highly efficient heat exchanging between the feed crude oil and the distillation products in the preheating train of 10 heat exchangers reduces the heating load on the main heater, and consequently reduces the fuel consumption for burning inside the heater and the size of the heater as well, also decreases the load on the water cooling system as the final products leave the preheater with relatively low temperatures. The control room is supplied with a state of the art DCS control system which controls the crude unit and all utilities. There are many other utility units inside the refinery like power generation system, instrument air system, nitrogen production unit, cooling water system, steam generation boilers, chemical treatment unit, water treatment system, Loading and unloading terminals, electrical substations, firefighting system in addition to laboratories and warehouses. A future expansion of the refinery (second stage) is considered in plans of ‘Kurdoil, the plan is to add the following facilities:

- Crude distillation unit 40,000 BPSD.

- Naphtha hydrotreating unit and splitting unit, this unit deals with whole naphtha produced from the refinery and reduces the sulfur compounds to the standard acceptable quantity according to the Euro standards, the capacity of the unit will be around 15,000 BPSD, Also the unit will be supplied with a stabilizer for gas separation and a splitting tower to split light naphtha from heavy naphtha.

- Catalytic reforming unit, this unit will deal with low octane heavy naphtha, it will be most likely a semi-regenerative reformer with a capacity of 8000 BPSD Max. to produce a reformate with 95-98 octane number.

- Isomerization unit, this unit deals with the light naphtha with around 65 octane number and increase this number by 15-25 degree depending on a type of technology will be used then. The capacity is expected to be around 7000 BPSD Max.

3-Semi-regenerative catalytic reformer: This technical proposal concerns the design of a new-Semi-regenerative catalytic reforming unit (CRU) to be implemented within a reformer complex comprising also a Naphtha Hydro treating Unit and a Light naphtha isomerization unit. The reformer complex is designed for processing of 18717BPSD. The design capacity of the CRU is 13325 BPSD.
